Our Story

Noble Estate is a boutique family Olive grove just north of Waikanae on the sun-drenched slopes overlooking the sea, Kapiti Island, and the South Island.

We named our grove Noble Estate as in incorporates the family name and olives have always been known as ‘the noble fruit’ – so it is a perfect match.

Although it is a small grove with 400 trees, we have been producing delicious Extra Virgin Olive Oil since 2002. Passionate about our craft we have consistently won Olives New Zealand awards for our Mission Olive Oil.

The ‘Mission’ olive cultivar comes from California – from around the Spanish Mission stations, and probably from Spain originally.  It is a delicious fruity full-of-flavor oil.

A small area is dedicated to Frantoio trees – our “cottage block”. An Italian variety, it produces beautiful fruity Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This oil is grassy, fruity and has a nice little bit of pepper or ‘pungency’ to finish. This premium product is a favourite and widely sought after, hardly hitting the shelves before it is sold out.

The trees grow on stony glacial moraine which really means it is so stony it is very difficult to dig in! Combining this stony ground with our temperate and maritime climate … we have the perfect environment for these trees.

Once we had mastered the art of harvest and bottling we expanded into the infused oil.

Combining our premium olive oil product with local and premium produce, we developed Infused LEMON and GARLIC oils, then our “pièce de résistance” and the latest addition to our range, KAFFIR LIME – Agrumato infused olive oil. This method of infusion is an old Italian method whereby pristine fruit is pressed with late harvest olives.

Wanting to provide as many uses for our friends and family from the amazing properties Olives Oil has, we developed a range of pure olive oil soaps, both bar, and flowing soap.  These contain 100% pure Olive Oil – and are known as ‘castille’ soaps. They are perfect for the basin or the shower.  Both types of soaps incorporate essential oils of lime and lemongrass, lavender, lemon verbena and Tea Tree oil. Our son, with feedback from other ‘blokes’, then created his own version using the flowing soap base into a “blokes” Shaving Soap.

At harvest time, it is a real family affair. It is a rather labor intensive exercise requiring input from family and faithful friends for our annual picking. But, after the hard work, there is joy and celebration!

In 2014 we prototyped another new product into our range. Combining feedback from our customers requesting a moisturiser, the experience, and expertise of our daughter who is a Podiatrist, and our family passion for creating high-quality products, we worked on manufacturing an olive oil based foot cream. Based on her knowledge and experience, it was developed and then tested on willing human recipients. We feel we have mastered the right balance and take pride in knowing that all our products are designed and manufactured in New Zealand containing pure New Zealand Olive oil.

We sell our full range of products – Oils, Soaps and Foot creams, at the Waikanae Saturday Market on the corner of Park Avenue and Ngarara Road most Saturdays – 8.30am to 12.00 noon, and at the Te Horo Market on the first Sunday of each month – 10.00am to 12.30pm.

Our oil is also available at Moore Wilson’s in Wellington City, at the Lindale Centre in Paraparaumu and at annual fairs – Thorndon Fair, Petone Fair and 2018 – the Newtown Fair.

Noble Estate’s Extra Virgin Olive Oils are fruity, buttery and DELICIOUS. We consistently win awards in the New Zealand Olive Oil Awards and proudly display the ‘Red Sticker’ which is the mark of authenticity and integrity for New Zealand Extra Virgin Olive Oils.

Our main variety is the Mission Olive which produces ‘fruity and buttery’ oil – to quote the judges’ comments. It also displays characteristics of other aromatic flavours… some people taste almonds, other apple or citrus! This delicious premium oil is from the olives grown on our family owned and operated boutique grove in Peka Peka, on the sun-drenched slopes overlooking Kapiti Island. The moderate climate and stony terrain is the perfect combination for these trees which thrive in it!
